Government Law
OGEJS and its predecessors have for decades represented departments, agencies, boards, and authorities of state and local government. OGEJS lawyers have served by appointment as legal counsel to the Geo. L. Smith II Georgia World Congress Center Authority (which is the public authority that operates the Georgia Dome stadium, the Georgia World Congress Center convention and trade show facility, and Centennial Olympic Park) since the Authority was created in the 1970s. OGEJS also serves as legal counsel to many of the public healthcare agencies throughout the state, several county and city government boards, and other governmental entities.
In their capacity as legal counsel to these clients, OGEJS lawyers have broad experience and expertise in all areas of governmental law, including public finance, governmental procurement of goods and services, board governance, Open Records and Open Meetings law, drafting and reviewing a broad range of agreements, employment law, governmental tort liability, and other matters. OGEJS lawyers provide counseling and representation in all areas which affect public healthcare providers including medical privacy, informed consent, legal issues regarding involuntary treatment, tort liability in respect of medical care, and funding through Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance, block grants, and other funding-related legal issues.
OGEJS lawyers also serve as conflict counsel in tort liability cases for the State of Georgia, and as legal counsel in the representation of law enforcement jurisdictions.
