The primary focus of Rick Baker's litigation practice is the defense of manufacturers and sellers in complex product liability cases. He has defended a variety of products, including motor vehicles, hospital equipment, powered lawn equipment, medical device electronic components and construction materials. His varied litigation practice also includes medical malpractice defense, business, employment and general civil litigation, construction and surety litigation, and general casualty defense. In addition, Mr. Baker provides general counseling services for businesses operating in Georgia and beyond. He was named a Rising Star by the 2010 Georgia Super Lawyers magazine. No more than 2.5 percent of the state's lawyers receive this honor.
Rick Baker earned his J.D. degree with distinction from the University of Oklahoma. He was honored by the Oklahoma Law Review with the Outstanding Note Editor Award and the Outstanding Second-Year Member Award. While at OU, Mr. Baker was elected president of his graduating class, and he received the Student Bar Association Prize for "rendering the most valuable and significant service to the student body." He earned his B.A. degree cum laude from Northeastern State University, where he was a member of the President's Leadership Class and received an Alumni Association Outstanding Senior Award.
Prior to attending law school, Mr. Baker worked for a member of Congress and an incumbent gubernatorial candidate, coordinating grassroots campaign efforts and managing community affairs, media relations, and special events. Mr. Baker also has experience as a public relations counselor for corporate and non-profit entities.
He is a member of several professional and community organizations, including the American Bar Association, the Georgia Bar Association, the Atlanta Bar Association, the Stonewall Bar Association, the Defense Research Institute, and the Georgia Defense Lawyers Association. Mr. Baker's recent community service activities include performing in the last two shows of A Courthouse Line, the all-attorney musical which benefits the Atlanta Bar Foundation, as well as volunteering for non-profit organizations and serving on the board of his neighborhood association.
